Post 28 marks Memorial Day by honoring those lost

May 26, 2025

American Legion Post 28 held a Memorial Day ceremony May 26 at the post home, 31768 Legion Road, Millsboro. The ceremony included the story of Lt. Stanley Stegnerski, who served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, a musical tribute to military branches, presentation of a wreath by the Colorettes, a POW/MIA ceremony, and lunch provided by the Unit 28 Auxiliary.

Post 28 Commander Joe Brown Jr.  said, “I’ve been the post commander here for four-and-a-half years as well as a Vietnam veteran, so it’s very personal to me. As you know, Memorial Day isn’t about the parties or barbecues; it’s about honoring the memories of those who gave their lives in the ultimate sacrifice.”

Jim Beattie, adjutant and finance officer for Post 28, said, “Today was incredible. I haven’t seen a crowd come out to celebrate Memorial Day like this in four years. I was quite surprised.”
