Postal service food drive to benefit Community Resource Center May 10
Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of nonperishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.
Again this year, the Community Resource Center Food Rescue program will be one of the beneficiaries of the local donation drive.
“The need is growing with each year,” said Dianne Shearon, food rescue lead volunteer. “I can tell you that last year we gave away more than 50,000 bags of food to our hungry clients, and our numbers show that we are on track to hand out even more in 2025. We are so grateful to the post office and to every household that participates in the annual food donation drive.”
The public is invited to leave a donation of nonperishable food in a bag near their mailboxes Saturday, May 10, and letter carriers will do the rest.
