Rainbow fence is a place to remember pets

Lewes couple hopes trail users will leave tributes
April 26, 2024

Kat Riley and Rose Moorehead lost their dog Josie back in September.

They wanted to find a way to remember her and the things she loved.

“We used to walk Josie on the trail every day,” Riley said.

Riley had seen a rainbow bridge with a beach scene that somebody created in another state. All she needed was that inspiration, memories of Josie, and a little paint

The couple made a rainbow bridge fence in their backyard, which backs up to the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail in the Whispering Pines community, just west of the Lewes Senior Activity Center.

The goal is for people leave something in memory of a pet they have lost – a message written on the fence, a collar or a favorite toy.

Some people have already used a Sharpie they left there to leave tributes to their pets.

“I just figured there’s so many people on this trail every day. I hope they’ll pass it on and tell other people,” Riley said.
