Random act of kindness brightens day

September 19, 2025

This is a thank you to the complete stranger who made my day by paying it forward during a random encounter at a local retail shop.

I was selecting gifts for two 30-something family friends undergoing treatment for breast cancer. Since I am several decades their senior, I asked a younger shopper who happened to be passing by if she thought my choices were appropriate.

A few minutes later, a woman around my age approach me and thrust a $10 bill in my direction. “I’d like to help,” she said. My initial reaction was embarrassment, thinking that I must have dressed so badly that I appeared destitute. But then the woman explained that she had overheard my discussion, and simply wanted to contribute toward gifts that hopefully would brighten the day of two women battling a terrible disease.

I accepted the offering with deep gratitude for someone who brightened my day with a random act of kindness. I hope she reads this letter and accepts my sincere thanks for her selfless act.
