A rap about the Rehoboth Bandstand

June 9, 2023

Editor’s note: The following letter was written with assistance by Chat GPT. It is in response to a recent letter criticizing the Rehoboth Bandstand choice of musical act. The author notes it’s best read to a rap beat.

I’m an old white guy, which I know you don’t know,

But give me a moment to school you with my flow,

You got complaints 'bout rap music, well, listen, here we go,

You say it don't belong, in our local music scene,

But let me break it down, why rap's the realest thing you've seen.

Age ain't no limit to the music we embrace,

Hip-hop's a culture, it transcends every race,

So let the beat drop, feel the rhythm in your soul,

Open up your mind, let's bridge this generation gap, yo!

I understand you might be hesitant, unsure about the style,

But rap's a powerful voice, it makes us all smile,

It tells stories of struggle, the highs and the lows,

From the streets to the stage, it's a language that grows.

Yo say, “You have to read your crowd!”

Although we both be fuddy-duddy,

Dear Leslie, I’m here to tell you now,

“Give rap a chance,” ol' buddy

You might be wowed!
