Reader sees coyote in Lewes

January 30, 2019

At noon, Jan. 25, Gary Hearne on Kalmar Street in Lewes watched a coyote stalk a group of ducks that were grazing on the opposite side of the pond in his backyard. The birds all wisely fled into the pond to bunch together in the middle so the coyote could not get at them, but he quickly ran around the end of the pond to Hearne’s side and stalked them right into the water.

However, he didn’t go more than belly deep and stopped to wait. After 60 seconds in the freezing water, he changed his mind and turned around and left. Hearne saw him Jan. 26 out on Gills Neck Road and saw him last year for the first time.
