Rehoboth history talks coincide with Tuesday farmers markets

May 24, 2025

The Rehoboth Beach Museum will host local historian Paul Lovett for free weekly talks about his diorama, the Golden Age of Rehoboth Beach, at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at 511 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach.

From Horn’s Pavilion on the ocean to the tabernacle of the original camp meeting association, Lovett’s miniature model depicts the city circa 1910, when the railroad still ran down Rehoboth Avenue. A locomotive complete with smoke and whistle chugs down the main thoroughfare of the replica, as the real trains did until upgrades to Delaware roadways led automobiles to eclipse them as the preferred way to get to the beach.

While the Rehoboth Beach Farmers Market is bustling from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays, in Grove Park, the museum invites shoppers to stop in and learn more about Rehoboth of yesteryear.

Heidi Nasstrom Evans, museum director, said, “The exhibit is best experienced in Mr. Lovett’s presence, when he personalizes the history to the interests of his audience.”
