The water system in Rehoboth has been restored to full power. In a prepared statement, Krys Johnson, city spokesperson, said repairs have been made to the water system problem that was causing low or no pressure for customers. Water was restored at 9:45 p.m., said Johnson.

Rehoboth Beach issued an urgent notice Thursday, July 16, that customers throughout the city’s water distribution area may experience periods of low water pressure until the system is repaired later this evening. Johnson said there was a water system problem south of Route 1 and east of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

In an email July 16, Public Works Director Kevin Williams said the issue is near the water tower on Lincoln Street. He said the contractor working on the bridge was excavating for a new manhole and catch basin, and exposed one of the city’s water mains.

Williams said the water main was was not adequately supported and started to displace. The city is trying to get it realigned and supported properly, to avoid a possible rupture. The city has shut the water off in that area while adjustments are being made.

The notice says customers who experienced water outages or low water pressure should immediately discontinue any nonessential use. Examples of nonessential water use include all outdoor irrigation and car washing.
