Residents told to throw away Romaine

November 21, 2018

A nationwide warning has reached Delaware as public health officials advise residents to throw away their Romaine lettuce.

The Centers for Disease Control announced Nov. 20 that there have been 32 cases of E. Coli infections in 11 states, hospitalizing 13 people since Oct. 8. The CDC said all types of romaine lettuce should thrown away, even if some has been eaten and no one got sick.

There have been no confirmed cases in Delaware but public health asks residents to take precautions, said Jen Brestel, spokeswoman for the Division of Public Health.

“If you do not know if the lettuce is romaine or whether a salad mix contains romaine, do not eat it and throw it away,” she said.
