I was interested in your reporting of Joseph Haney’s comments regarding the Mid-Atlantic Family Practice doctors moving to a ‘concierge’ type practice. Mr. Haney stated, “I truly believe that no doctor is worth that kind of money ($1,800 per person per year).” This is (for now) a free country, and obviously Mr. Haney has exercised his right to decline to be served. But likewise, the MAFP physicians have exercised their right to serve only as many patients as they think appropriate, and to maximize their income as independent business owners while doing it.
I have no doubt that my doctor will maximize his income now, before the incoming socialist administration of President Harris (ne Biden) dictates how many patients he will see, and how little reimbursement he will be allowed to receive under ‘Medicare-for-All.’ As for folks like Mr. Haney, you might have to start getting used to being at the end of the queue; behind the more deserving members of our new society, the uninsured, the homeless, the addicted, the oppressed, the illegal migrants. Like most Americans, I would rather spend money on the essentials of life: marijuana, liquor, drugs, cable subscription, cellphones etc., rather than something as frivolous as my health and my healthcare. After all, isn’t it the government’s responsibility to supply something that I have a right to receive; free healthcare?
Brings back the witty comment of an observer (probably Republican) during ‘President’ Hillary Clinton’s abortive attempt at a healthcare revolution decades ago, “If you think healthcare is expensive now, just wait until it’s free! “
