Returning to Poland 70 years later with the Cape Gazette

  Hedy Gland of New Castle, DE recently traveled to Poland with her sister-in-law, Barbara Hearne of Lewes & Newark. Hedy left Poland 70 years ago and recently reconnected with family in her hometown of Przemysl, Poland, the beautiful non-tourist town, on the border of Ukraine.  Reuniting with Hedy’s cousins, nieces and aunt also meant seeing the changes over 70 years including her grandmother’s home, her family’s apartment during the German and Russian occupations, the town cemetery, two palaces, a castle and the former Jewish ghetto. Here Hedy and Barbara are pictured at Kościół pw. MB Nieustającej Pomoc (Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church) in Przemysl, Poland catching up on news back home. This is the church where Hedy’s parents were married and she was baptized. Their trip also included visiting castles, palaces, shrines, salt mines and a trip to the beautiful mountain town of Zakopane.
