The Rev. J. Gregory Quinn, esteemed educator
The Rev. J. Gregory Quinn died Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at his home in Lewes.
The Rev. Quinn was born Aug. 28, 1947, in Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late John A. Quinn and Regina Holden Quinn.
He graduated from Georgetown Preparatory in 1965 and attended Georgetown University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. He then graduated from Boston State College with a Ed.M in secondary science education. Following that, he attended Boston University where he was a teaching fellow and earned an Ed.D in science education. For two years, he was an assistant professor at Beaver College in Glendale, Pa.
Father Quinn entered the Novitiate of St. Isaac Jogues, Wernersville, Pa. in 1976.
His studies included St. Regis School of Theology in Toronto, the Weston School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass., where he earned a M.Divinity and M. Theology. He then attended and graduated from Akron University with a degree in counseling.
Father Quinn was ordained June 8, 1985. His principal assignments as a Jesuit were Appalachian Ministry in West Virginia, associate chaplain; director of campus ministry and student counselor at Wheeling College, Wheeling, W.Va., and rector and chair of religious studies at Loyola Blakesfield High School in Towson, Md.
In 2001, Father Quinn retired and moved to Lewes, where he lived until his death.
He is survived by his cousins Vivian Graban and family; Susan Wade and family; Cathy Quinn Reichard and family; John Quinn; Lyn Sisler; and many wonderful friends.
A memorial Mass will be held at St Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes, Saturday, May 21, at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow in the parish hall.
