Revived Kiwanis Club of Coastal Delaware seeks new members

March 13, 2024

The Kiwanis Club of Coastal Delaware is flourishing and seeking new members.

Kiwanis is a group of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

Formed in 1928, the local club has had a significant impact and presence in coastal Delaware. In 1930, the Kiwanis Club was the chartering organization for Boy Scout Troop 85, providing a meeting space at the club’s home on Kent Street in Rehoboth Beach until the early 2000s. In the 1980s, the Kiwanis Club was instrumental in helping establish the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach and the Cape Henlopen High School Key Club. A vital part of the community throughout the decades, the organization experienced a decline in membership, and in 2019, its operation briefly became dormant.

In 2022, under the direction and leadership of Russell Koerwer and Bob Dobbs, the Kiwanis Club of Coastal Delaware was relaunched, and a new board was established. Since its revival, more than 30 members have committed to its success and launched several community service initiatives. Club members provided Christmas gifts to area families in need, sponsored a booth at CAMP Rehoboth’s Baltimore Avenue Block Party, prepared comfort and activity boxes for hospitalized children, and built a little free library for the Children’s Beach House.

Members can find updates on activities and initiatives online in the new Kiwanis Club of Coastal Delaware Facebook group.
