January 26, 2026

The Cape wrestling team led visiting Caesar Rodney 31-17 after 10 matches with four bouts remaining in the Jan. 23 dual meet. The Riders mopped the mat over the final four bouts (two pins and two decisions) to outscore Cape 18-0 and head back to Camden-Wyoming with an exhilarating 35-31 victory.

The match rolled from light to heavy, with Cape winning by pinning at 120, Cale Baker over Ashton Graham; 126, Austin Guerrieri over Colton Gilbert; and 157, Nick Walker over Luke Garrett.

Grayson Davis won by tech fall over Ethan Ferger at 150, while major decisions came from Nolan Wright over Lily Moffett at 106 and Carson Tuer over Miguel Sigaran at 165.

Riders wins by tech fall were Ben Donato over Jack Hudson at 113 and pins from Sean Dixon over Tadeo Lares at 144, Fritzsen Brunache over Yusuf Smith at 175 and Jeremiah Heath over Bryce Biles at 215.

Crucial wins by decisions for the Riders came from Quade Cummings over Blake Walker (8-1) at 132, Johnny Spence over Tripp Gannon (22-19) at 138, Turhan Potter sudden victory over Robbie Payton at 190 and Aeden Carney over Javier Morales (9-2) at 285.

The most electric match was at 138 pounds. Tripp Gannon of Cape put Johnny Spence to his back as two refs slid around belly down, but the mat was not slapped.

Cape was back at it the following day, defeating Saint Mark’s 58-16. The Vikings’ match against William Penn Jan. 26 was postponed due to the winter weather. Cape will host Smyrna Wednesday, Jan. 28.
