Robert John “Jake” Jacoby, 76, of Milton, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes. He was born in Westboro, Ohio, Sept. 10, 1934, to the late Helen and Robert Jacoby.

He graduated from Blanchester High School in 1952. In 1956 he received a bachelor of science degree in education from the University of Dayton. During his four years at Dayton he played basketball. Following his graduation, Jake taught biology and coached basketball at Blanchester High School. In 1963 he received a master’s in education from Miami of Ohio. Over the course of his career Jake coached basketball at several Ohio high schools and Southern State Junior College. He later became an athletic director at Lakota High School in Lakota, Ohio. After he retired in Ohio, he accepted a position as athletic director at Stetson University in Deland, Fla. Jake retired from Stetson after 12 years then went to work for the Atlantic Sun Conference. In 2001 he moved to Milton and married his high school/college sweetheart, Joyce Flora. Jake was an avid sports fan all his life. He also enjoyed golfing, reading and cooking.

In addition to his parents, Jake was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Jacoby. Surviving are his wife Joyce; two daughters, Meg Jacoby Maxwell and Beth Jacoby; his sister Jane Ann Davis; and his cat Miss Kitty. Services will be held in Ohio at a later date. Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Lewes.
