Robert J. Wilson, ‘Captain Bob’

July 17, 2016

Robert J. “Bob” Wilson, 76 of Wilmington, peacefully passed away surrounded by his devoted family Friday, July 15, 2016.

Bob was born in Wilmington May 30, 1940, son of the late James Beckett and Dorothy (Brown) Wilson.  He was employed as production manager with Hewlett Packard, and retired in 1995 after 36 years of service.  Following his retirement, Bob fulfilled his dream of obtaining his captain’s license, and enjoyed the time on his boat, the AJ, lovingly named after his children Ashle and Jamie, and spent many years on the water in Indian River and Lewes. Bob loved his summers spent between Broadkill Beach and The Henlopen in Rehoboth. Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish and the Lewes Yacht Club.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Carol Dellose Wilson; his daughter, Ashle Wilson Bailey and her husband Scott; his son, James B. Wilson of Key West, Fla.; and his grandchildren, Wilson, Rhett, Amanda and Lauren.  He is also survived by his sister, Eva Lessig; his nephew, Steven Lessig; and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Freeman and her husband Paul.

Family and friends are invited to visit at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont streets, Wilmington Wednesday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to noon.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following the visitation. Entombment will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bob may be made to the Ministry of Caring, 506 N. Church St., Wilmington, DE 19801 www.ministryofcaring.org) or the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St., Wilmington, DE 19801 (www.dehumane.org).
