Robert James Cahill, immensely proud of his family
Robert (Bob, Bobby J) James Cahill, 86, of Lewes, formerly of Newark, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Aug. 23, 1935, in Kingston N.Y., the son of the late Alexander E. & Frances K. Cahill.
Bob was a veteran of the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, worked as a store manager with the F. W. Woolworth Co., district manager with the Medic Fair store chain, and ended his career with Kiddie/Leisure World, retiring in 1995. He moved to Lewes in 1997 to enjoy his retirement years with the love of his life, Vicki. Bob and Vicki enjoyed traveling all over the country, and he loved driving his jeep on the beach at Cape Henlopen State Park to surf fish. He was a talented singer, and was very service-oriented after his retirement, volunteering at Casa San Francisco in Milton, Beebe Healthcare’s Cardiac Rehab, the CHEER Center, and Angola by the Bays men’s club.
Bob was husband to the late Viola P. Cahill, the love of his, life who passed April 23, 2009.
He was immensely proud of his family. He is survived by his greatest accomplishments, his five children and their spouses: Patricia Mason (Richard) of Newark, Kevin Cahill (Cindy) of Elkton, Md., Paul Cahill (Wendy) of Fair Hill, Md., Susie Murphy (Dave) of Middletown, and Kara Ritter (Doug) of Millsboro. Bob was one proud Pop-Pop to Lindsay, Sean, Dalton, Gina, Patrick, Riley, Zachary, and Brittany; and Great-Pop-Pop to Finley, Kody, Wesley, and two more due in May and July 2022. His dear friend Joyce Wegman also survives him.
Bob is survived by his brother, Frank Cahill (Bonnie) of Austin, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Alexander E Cahill, Rosemary Huettinger, Daniel Cahill, Patricia Heppner, and Jean Hays.
A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, where a funeral service will begin at 12:45 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Bob’s name to Casa San Francisco, Milton and/or Lewes Cardiac Rehab.
