Robert Jones of Harbeson celebrates 99th birthday with family

October 16, 2020

Robert Jones of Harbeson celebrated his 99th birthday Oct. 3, enjoying dinner out with his family.

A World War II veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, Jones has been active in his local VFW organization for years. He was born and spent most of his life in Philadelphia where he worked as a firefighter. He later moved to the fire prevention division, giving demonstrations in Philadelphia schools. At Temple University he started a second career as the school’s fire marshal and retired after 15 years of service.

His wife of 71 years and the true love of his life, Ursula, passed away in 2015. Jones’ deep faith continues to help him through this loss, as do his five children, 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Having been a Delaware resident for only two years, Jones is enjoying exploring the local history and all the area has to offer. As an active gardener, he is getting well acquainted with the local nurseries. His family members send special thanks to those who have been so supportive and said Jones is looking forward to celebrating his 100th birthday with a big bash.
