Ronald ‘Ron’ Thayer Wetzel, loved gardening

Ronald "Ron" Thayer Wetzel, 88, of Georgetown passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, at Delaware Veterans Home in Milford.  He was born in Scranton, Pa., Nov. 7, 1930, son of the late Nelson A. and Beatrice M. Wetzel.

Mr. Wetzel's interests were many and varied. He enjoyed roller skating and took great pleasure in gardening. Above all, Mr. Wetzel cherished time spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wetzel was preceded in death by his stepson, Bruce Pickett.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Joyce Wetzel; his sons: Ronald J. Wetzel of Texas and Edwin R. Wetzel of California; his daughter, Mary Lou Chatterton of Australia; his stepdaughter, Judith Pickett-Tucci of Pennsylvania; his grandson, Bryce Pickett; as well as seven additional grandchildren; and his two great-granddaughters.

A Graveside Service will be held Friday, April 19, at 11 a.m., at Gracelawn Memorial Park,  2220 North DuPont Highway, New Castle.
