Rosina (Bartholomew) Cornell, worked in fashion

October 22, 2018

Rosina (Bartholomew) Cornell, 79, of Millsboro passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at her home.  She was born Friday, Nov. 25, 1938, in Dorking Surrey, England, daughter of the late Philip Bartholomew and Isabella (Wilson) Bartholomew.

As a little girl, Rosina lived in Durham, Northern England with her mother and Grand Da, Alexander Wilson, who was a survivor from the Durham Light Infantry in the Boer War and World War I. Throughout her life, she recalled the turbulance and devastation of families and properties from World War II.  She recalled the bombings, shelters, shortages, and evacuations of children, especially the evacuation of her two older brothers, who were moved to the less populated countryside for the duration of the war.

At the age of 10, Rosina's mother remarried and relocated to London. She attended school there and upon graduation, Rosina went to work in the fashion and makeup industry, which she retained a great interest in throughout her life.  Rosina loved to dance and met Manuel Rodriguez, a career U.S. airman, at a London dance hall, whom she eventually married. They had a daughter and son, and lived the life of a traveling military family.  After retiring from military service, the family went on to live in Iran, Maryland, and eventually Sussex County, where Rosina cared for Manuel through a long illness, until his passing.

Some time later, Rosina met Craig through mutual friends, and found love once more.  They married and shared 12 happy years together.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, who will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

Rosina is survived by her beloved husband, Craig Cornell of Millsboro; her son, Paul Rodriguez of Colorado Springs, Colo.; her daughter, Rowena Ales of Penn Valley, Calif.; and her sister, Carol Davies of London, UK.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 26, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 6 p.m.  Interment will take place on at a later date, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Rosina's memory to a cause near and dear to her heart: Defenders of Animal Rights, 14412 Old York Road, Phoenix, MD 21131.
