Royals fizzle following strong start against Salisbury School
If Delmarva Christian girls basketball combined their second half against IR with their first half against Salisbury School, the squad would have the first win of the new year.
Instead, unfortunately, the Royals were saddled with another close loss, this time 31-26 to the Dragons in Salisbury Jan. 21.
A bright note for the Royals was the play of freshman Hannah Silben. The first-year player led the team with 11 points and nine rebounds, nearly posting a double-double. Senior Eve Bohinski and sophomore Avery McCoy each led the defense with four steals. Three assists from senior Riley Barto were the highmark in the helper category.
Delmarva Christian led 6-5 after the first quarter and took a 13-10 lead into half but a 12-9 third quarter knotted things 22-22 heading into the final frame.
Momentum in hand, Salisbury School won the fourth quarter 9-4 to take a 31-26 victory.
The girls played Wilmington Charter Jan. 22 after the Cape Gazette deadline and will suit up again when they welcome Red Lion into town for a tip-off at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 24.
