Russell Davies, teacher, successful businessman
Russell Davies, 92, peacefully passed away Friday Oct. 31, 2025, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford.
Russell was born Feb. 28, 1933, in Peckville, Pa., to the late Richard and Emma Davies.
He graduated from Blakeley High School in 1950 and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Bloomsburg State College in 1960.
Russell honorably served our country in the Army from 1953–55 during the Korean War.
He was a teacher of business subjects at Milford, and later a driver’s ed teacher at Milford and several other nearby high schools. During much of the 1980s, he worked as a district parts manager for MidAtlantic Toyota.
In 1987, he bought N’Ice Cream Day in Rehoboth Beach. He and Harriet successfully operated the business for 12 seasons. He made every scoop of ice cream that left the shop, and they provided first jobs for many Milford teenagers.
During his retirement years he along with his friend, Jim Ward, loved assisting son Ray and his business partner, Ronald E. Thornley (Buzzy; Davies and Thornley Construction) building many custom homes in Milford and surrounding areas.
He also loved traveling with Harriet; Grand Circle European River Cruises were his favorites.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Harriet; daughter, Bobbie Davies Consaga (Francis Gouillart) and her former husband Robert J. Consaga Jr.; son, Ray Davies (Kimberly Kenyon Davies); and grandchildren, Jennifer Consaga (Stephane Roubach), Michael Consaga (Bailey McCarthy), Ryan Davies and Kaitlyn Davies Woodard (Colin Woodard).
Russell was preceded in death by his siblings, Marian, Richard, Robert and Peg.
A Celebration of Life will take place at noon, Saturday, Nov. 22, at Avenue United Methodist Church, 20 N. Church St., Milford, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.
