Ry-bread’s Food & Drinkery in Paynter’s Mill expands menu
Ryan Blakeman, owner of Corner Market Bistro in Milton, has seized an opportunity to expand his family-owned business, now in its third year. When Kindle closed its Milton location in May, Blakeman decided to fill the void Kindle’s departure created. “We thought it was the perfect opportunity to slip in and take over for lunch and dinner,” he said.
In July, Blakeman changed the name of Corner Market Bistro to Ry-bread’s Food & Drinkery, in Paynter’s Mill, off Cave Neck Road.
He said he was encouraged by customers who regularly dined at his 1,200-square-foot restaurant, but no longer had dinner service available in the area. By offering an even greater selection, Ry-bread’s now has a light-fare menu and home-style comfort-food entrees.
“Everything is put together and made to order,” he said. “Our mussels have been really popular.”
For $8, guests can start their meals with Prince Edward Island mussels steamed with white wine and garlic. Blakeman says his hand-cut fries are one of a kind. He makes them in-house and uses a special seasoning. Hand-battered sour pickles are served crispy with a horseradish-ranch dressing for $4.50. “Believe it or not, our fried pickles are really popular as well,” he said.
Old Corner Market Bistro customers can still expect to find signature sandwiches, such as the Bogart – a turkey, bacon and pepper jack cheese sandwich topped with chipotle mayonnaise and served on ciabatta bread – for $8.50. Newly introduced platters include open-faced brisket, made on premises; hand-battered fish and chips or crab cakes – all priced between $12.50 and $17. Light-fare selections include a Cobb salad with fresh corn, bacon, cucumbers, and mixed greens tossed in ranch dressing for $4.50. For $5, customers can add fresh tuna. Blakeman also offers fresh soups, such as tomato or Dad’s split pea for $4.25 a bowl.
The restaurant has cathedral ceilings and warm wood accents around a fireplace. Outdoor seating has space for six guests, while inside the restaurant can hold 42 diners. Two plasma-screen TVs show weather forecasts or sports games. Guests can also take advantage of free wireless access. Blakeman is also applying for his liquor license, and in the fall, he plans to feature Monday night football games and other specials, including a burger night for locals. In the meantime, fresh fruit smoothies and fresh-brewed teas and coffees complement sandwiches or meals.
Blakeman said an authentic Italian chef will be cooking the weekend of Friday, Aug. 7. Ry-bread’s Food & Drinkery is located in the Paynter’s Mills development, in Milton. It is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday; from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday; and closed Tuesday. For details, call 645-1414.
