Rylie’s Smile Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, will host its eighth annual 5K run/walk at 9 a.m., Friday, Nov. 24, at American Legion Post 17 in Lewes.
Rylie’s Smile Foundation was founded by Rylie Maedler in 2015. When Rylie was 7 years old, she suffered from aggressive bone tumors and seizures. Working with specialists, Rylie received treatment from alternative medication and had great success. Her foundation has advocated for several law changes in Delaware to improve safe access to nontraditional pediatric treatments.
Now 17, Rylie continues to advocate for improvements on international, federal and state levels, helping policymakers and doctors find less-toxic therapies for seriously sick children.
The 5K course travels along the Junction & Breakwater Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park.
Registration information can be found at races2run.com. Preregistration is open now, but race-day registration is also available. The first 50 adults to register online will receive a free gift in addition to their race souvenir. Race-day registration opens at 8 a.m. There is free parking available at the American Legion and along American Legion Road.
Overall awards and age-group awards will be presented. Races2Run will chip time the event. A post-race ceremony will offer food and refreshments provided by the American Legion Auxiliary, which will include beer provided by NKS for those 21 and over, and live music by Catch the Drift.
