Sandhill Fields to host women’s lax coaches tourney July 7-9

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Capital Cup will take place Friday to Sunday, July 7 to 9, at Sandhill Fields Sports Complex, Sussex Academy and DE Turf Sports Complex. Approximately 3,500 athletes and 200 college coaches from 226 teams will play on 24 fields over the two-day tournament.
The IWLCA Tournament Series was created by its member college coaches to streamline the recruiting process and make a more effective and affordable process for both the coaches and prospective student-athlete families. Every IWLCA event boasts a strong attendance by college coaches from Division I, Division II, Division III and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics institutions because the event has been created and executed with the recruiting process in mind.
“We are incredibly excited to bring the IWLCA Capital Cup, a national event in the IWLCA Tournament Series, to the Delaware region for the first time. This tournament has naturally grown with the move to Delaware, and these great venues will welcome over 3,500 prospective college athletes from 35 states across the country. The college coaches get to experience a top-notch event that is consistently adapting to the recruiting landscape, and attracting top clubs and athletes from the women’s lacrosse world,” said Caitlin Schmelz, director of lacrosse for Elite Tournaments.
"We are proud to be hosting such a large event in the state of Delaware and partnering with DE Turf to do so. It has been a great week for our area with the Fourth of July celebrations and now the Capital Cup. We are also excited to be showcasing our beautiful complex here at Sandhill Fields," said Brad Leinbach, Sandhill Fields general manager.
