Scottie Scheffler continues to dominate

July 25, 2025

On Sunday, at Royal Port Rush, Scottie Scheffler won his third major at the British Open by four shots over Harris English with a score of 17-under par. During the weekend rounds, he was like a machine. In the third round, he shot a 64. It helped for sure that the weather conditions were very benign on the weekend. The European courses are built to challenge the player in bad weather. These conditions were much easier than expected for all of the players on the weekend.

Scheffler reminds me of the tennis superstar, Roger Federer, in terms of their personalities while playing. They are very business-like and are seemingly very understated people that just like to play and let their actions speak louder than words and just move on to the next tournament. Now Scottie will have the opportunity to win the career grand slam next year at the U.S. Open before he turns 30 at Shinnecock Hills in New York.

There is one week before the Major League Baseball trading deadline and it's obvious to me that what the Phillies need is some significant help in the bullpen and some reinforcements in the outfield. Both groups’ production this year has been below average. If they want any chance to go deep in the playoffs, the need an experienced closer. David Robertson is not enough. It will be an interesting week.

The Eagles’ defense of their Super Bowl championship has started this week with the the beginning of training camp. It has been interesting to hear most of the Eagles players say to the media that they’re trying to forget the fact that they are defending champions. I don't know how realistic that is. I think winning the NFC East Division is going to be a good bit more difficult this year because the Washington Commanders are a lot better than they have been in years past, especially with Jayden Daniels as quarterback. In addition, with the new ownership, a lot of players now want to play for Washington. You can bet that Jalen Hurts will be very motivated because he was ranked as the eighth or ninth best quarterback in the NFL, even though his team won the Super Bowl in convincing fashion over the quarterback who is ranked number one. We will see. Go Birds!
