April 23, 2024

The Sussex Academy boys’ tennis squad moved to 3-4 on the season after a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Polytech April 22 in Georgetown.

Wins were garnered by David Wanalista at second singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Polytech’s Thomas Krumrine. Seahawks third-singles player Matt Perchiniak downed Gabriel Wiley 6-4, 6-2.

Sussex Academy’s second-doubles team of Logan Mattie and Nathan VanPelt defeated Polytech’s David Morgan and Gabriel Bissette 6-4, 6-4.

“I’m so proud of the boys,” said Sussex Academy coach Lesley Eichten. “They’ve really come together as a team, and I think that’s our greatest strength this season. They’re working hard and having fun, and it’s paying off. Our second-doubles team of Nathan VanPelt and Logan Mattie are on a winning streak, only losing one match so far this season. Their on- and off- court chemistry is unbeatable, and they keep us all laughing and really have fun out there.”
