Seahawks girls’ lax back to .500 after bombarding Bucs

Host Milford kept things close, before Sussex Academy maxed out
April 20, 2026

The Sussex Academy girls’ lacrosse team is back to .500 on the season after topping Milford 15-9 April 17.

Junior June Hale opened the scoring for the Seahawks. Sophomore Brooklyn Montgomery scored a minute later. Hale then struck again to net a brace before four minutes ticked off the board. Liz Layton earned a hat trick by scoring the next three goals for Sussex Academy to give the Seahawks a 6-1 edge at the end of the first quarter.

Milford refused to go down without a fight. After Montgomery scored her second goal of the game, the Bucs rattled off five straight goals before Layton tallied her fourth goal with just four seconds left in the half to make it an 8-6 ball game.

Lax fans expected the second half to be another thriller, but Sussex Academy’s adjustments proved to be a step ahead of Milford’s program. A 7-3 advantage over the final 24 minutes produced the 15-9 win.

The Seahawks will head north for their next Henlopen North game against a 5-2 Caesar Rodney team at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 22.
