Seahawks volleyball falls to Polytech

October 3, 2019

Sussex Academy volleyball dropped a 26-24, 25-19, 25-16 match to visiting Polytech Oct. 1 in Georgetown.

Libero Grace Bucklin led the Seahawks with 18 digs. Adrianne Boladas recorded 10 digs while knocking down four kills and two aces. Emily Moody picked up 12 assists, while Julia Swingle, Madison and Tess Burke, Terri Kirschner, Jordan Elmer and Cassidy Schell teamed for 37 digs.

“Polytech had some tough servers and a solid defense,” said Sussex Academy coach Hailee Gooch. “It really highlighted how we need to focus on placement and speed moving forward. We all had higher expectations from each other going into this match, but we ultimately fell short due to careless mistakes and nerves. As a program, we have always struggled with pulling ourselves out of a rut, and as coaches, we watch them kill it every day at practice. Our next step as a team is to execute our skills with 100 percent effort and confidence during games. The cohesiveness and skills of these girls have improved so much over the years and this season. We’re excited to see just how far we progress by the end of this year.”

The junior varsity Seahawks fell to the JV Panthers.

The Seahawks fell to 3-4 on the season. They were set to host Early College High School Thursday, Oct. 3.
