At its April meeting, the Sussex Economic Development Action Committee hosted Food Bank of Delaware representatives Cathy Kanefsky, president and CEO, and Chad Robinson, executive director.
The presentation detailed the many services the Food Bank provides to the community including its workforce training, as well as recent, severe federal funding shortages affecting its ability to provide nutritional support for Delawareans who are experiencing food insecurity.
SEDAC members pledged $5,000 in individual donations matched by a $5,000 organizational donation for a total contribution of $10,000. “What really stood out to me is that 1 in 6 Delaware children are food insecure and that a $1 donation equals three meals,” said Scott Thomas, SEDAC chair.
“We are grateful for SEDAC’s incredible generosity,” said Kanefsky. “This donation will enable us to provide 30,000 meals to our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our communities.”
