Seine fishing for trout near Milford in the early 20th century

December 17, 2019

Fishermen along the coast have been picking up a few migrating striped bass in recent weeks - some from the surf, some a mile or two offshore. Bill Aiken used to say stripers like to get moving when the weather gets nasty. He caught many a tiderunner fishing from the jetties at Indian River Inlet in snowstorms.

This photo from the Milford History Collection in the Delaware Public Archives shows fishermen hauling in a seine while fishing for sea trout at Cedar Beach in the early 1900s.
