Sen. Chris Coons is a man of action

September 11, 2020

Every day I wake up and read another headline about the struggles Americans like my loved ones are facing -  economic insecurity, assaults on healthcare, systemic racism, and more. Sadly, much of it has been fueled by a divisive president and his enablers. The polarization in Washington has become toxic, and if we are to preserve our nation and achieve the lofty goals we strive for as a society, then it is imperative we have leadership equipped and ready to do so. I find that leadership in U.S. Sen. Coons, who is running for re-election Sept. 15 to the U.S. Senate.

Chris is someone I’ve known for years, and who I’ve constantly been impressed with as a leader and a legislator. His ability to cut through the stalemates and bridge the divides amongst his congressional colleagues has earned him the reputation of one of the U.S. Senate’s most effective senators. That’s exactly who and what we need in Washington right now. A leader who can put partisan politics aside and get legislation passed for the benefit of his constituents.

I entered into politics because I know that a society where equal justice under the law, real criminal justice reform, an eradication of poverty, and strong communities and family services are possible. These are the things America needs to not only aid in its recovery from this recession and the deep inequalities rooted in racism, but to continue to prosper. Chris is a man and a leader who believes in these things.

Chris advocated for the homeless over a decade before running for public office. He is a man who believes in civil rights and justice at his core, which is why he fought against apartheid in South Africa, worked closely with the late Congressman John Lewis to pass voter protections, and joined senators Kamala Harris and Cory Booker in co-sponsoring the Justice in Policing Act following the tragic deaths of so many innocent Black men and women. He is humble, honorable, genuine and a person of great conviction.

Chris doesn’t just spout ideology; he is a man of action, with a demonstrated track record of success and collaboration. That’s what Delawareans need. And that’s why I will be voting for him this Sept. 15. I urge you to do the same!

Rep. Sean Lynn
D-Dover
