Senior Swim Olympics held at Sussex Academy Aquatic Center

Twenty swimmers and staff took part in the Delaware Senior Olympics swim competition. More than 20 people took part in the Delaware Senior Olympics swim competition at the Sussex Academy Aquatic Center Sept. 24. Numerous records were set during the daylong event.

Tom Martiner takes off from the blocks and wins the 100 backstroke. He won five gold medals in the daylong event.
Gertrude Bissey swims the 100 backstroke in the 80-84 age group.
Francis Martin swims the 100 butterfly in the 65-69 group.
Betty Lampe swims the 100 fly in the 65-69 age group.
Henry DeWitt swims the 200 freestyle in the 75-79 age group.
Maureen White swims the 50 breaststroke in the 65-69 age group.
Francis Martin swims the 400 individual medley in the 65-69 age group.

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
