Sharon Anne McNesby, devout Catholic
Sharon Anne McNesby, 73, of Newark, passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Sharon was born in Milford, daughter of the late Dallas Pierce and Gwendolyn (Henrion) Roman. She graduated from Christiana High School before attending the University of Delaware and worked for many years at Sears before becoming a homemaker to her four children. Once her children were older, she spent some years working as a teacher’s aide at St. Thomas the Apostle School before spending 17 years in administration at Holy Family Catholic Church. She was a longtime parishioner at both St. Thomas and Holy Family Catholic churches. She loved traveling as a family when her children were younger, and often reminisced about her special trips to Ireland and California with her beloved husband, Joe. She enjoyed visiting Irish Eyes in Lewes and spending time in Ocean City, Md. Most importantly, Sharon loved watching her grandchildren grow up. She will be dearly missed by many, but especially by her best friend of over 40 years, Beth Sontowski, who helped the family care for Sharon in the months before her passing.
In addition to her parents, Sharon is preceded in death by her stepfather, Paul Roman; her sister, Lynn LaFrance; and her niece, Rachel Helman. Sharon is survived by her husband of 48 years, Joseph McNesby Jr.; her children and their spouses, Kate and Tom Adams, Joseph “Andy” and Jennifer McNesby, Erin Nowicki, and Theresa and Justin Martin; and her grandchildren, Zach and Josh Adams, Morgan and Joey McNesby, McKenna and Avery Nowicki, and Finnegan and Ella Martin; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, July 13, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 301 N Bancroft Pkwy., Wilmington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 14, at the church. Burial will follow at All Saints’ Cemetery.
