Shorebird migration book discussion set Sept. 9

August 29, 2025

The Sussex Bird Club, Lewes Public Library and Browseabout Books will welcome ornithologist Bruce M. Beehler for a discussion and signing of his new book, “Flight of the Godwit: Tracking Epic Shorebird Migrations,” at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., in Lewes. The event will also stream live online via Zoom.

Beehler is an ornithologist, naturalist, conservationist, lecturer and author of nature books including “North on the Wing” and “Birds of North America.” He is a research associate in the division of birds at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History.

In “Flight of the Godwit,” Beehler chronicles his awe-inspiring journey driving 35,000 miles between 2019 and 2023 in search of North America’s largest and farthest-flying shorebirds. Interweaving colorful fieldwork stories and rich details on local culture with the natural history and biology of shorebirds, he presents a captivating adventure and a tribute to these remarkable creatures — and to birding itself.

Registration is required, and participants will be asked to select in-person or online attendance. Visit tinyurl.com/AuthorEventsLPL or call 302-645-2733.
