Showbiz family brings act to Milton Theatre

The Rescignos perform off-Broadway musical comedy close to home.
June 30, 2016

Taking leave from their busy performance schedules in New York, brothers Paul and Robbie Rescigno sold out their first performance at Milton Theatre during a recent trip home to lower Delaware.

The show is their Vaudevillian-style take on sibling rivalry, growing up in southern Delaware and their own twin-ness.  Performing for a packed house, the brothers started off strong with their show-stopping theme song about famous pairs.

“Throughout our history there’s been some legendary pairs, two people that no one can come between,” they sang. “Like Cain and Abel, Bert and Ernie, Carson and McMahon, Fred and Ginger, Tom and Jerry, Pete and Pete; not a single one will ever have us beat. Yes, we are Paul and Robbie, or Robbie and Paul, no matter how you say it, we still answer the call.”

During the show, the twins ruminate on their lives, working at Applebees and bearing the boredom of “slower lower” years ago.  After they finished high school, Paul and Robbie attended Syracuse University and went on to graduate summa cum laude and magna cum laude, respectively, with degrees in the fine arts. Since then, the brothers have gone on to work for David Letterman at The Late Show, study at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London and make numerous appearances on television and in feature films.

Most recently, the pair were featured on Netflix series ‘The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ with actor Jeff Goldblum, who was also making a guest appearance.

Bringing out old friends and new fans for the hour-long production, featuring witty banter, one-liners and original tunes such as “I Will Never Leave You” and “Just Adjust Your Dreams,” the twins sang about the inevitable failures of adulthood, bringing belly laughs to the crowd.

They even brought out their equally impressive singing sister Tricia Rescigno Pastor for the local performance.

Dover resident Barbara Shalley-Leonard traveled south for the show and remembered the family from her time as a teacher in Milford, later posting this review on Facebook:

Robbie and Paul Rescigno were incredibly funny, with remarkable comedic timing, in addition to singing voices that wowed us,” Shalley-Leonard wrote. “My face hurt from laughing, and my heart burst with pride! Hearing sister Tricia was a sweet bonus!”

Milford resident Kirby Fitzgerald said he’d previously traveled to New York to see “The Rescignos,” and didn’t want to miss a local performance.

“We went to go see their show in New York City, and they’re fantastic,” Fitzgerald said.
