SipUrban Farmhouse opens in Milton

July 13, 2023

After one damaged building, a pandemic, a building sale, a fire and a location at Tanger Outlets, Kristen Latham is finally back home in Milton with her new venture: SipUrban Farmhouse at 105 Federal St.

SipUrban Farmhouse serves as the successor to the popular Suburban Farmhouse, Latham’s first venture in Milton. Serving up coffee and breakfast items, Suburban Farmhouse was a popular gathering spot downtown on Federal Street until a car accident damaged the building and forced the restaurant to close. Shortly after that, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the former Suburban Farmhouse building was sold.

At that point, Latham focused on other endeavors, including Dough Bar, located next to Irish Eyes, and Sip, a small coffee shop at Tanger Outlets. Her intention was to open a new version of Suburban Farmhouse across Federal Street next to The Speckled Roost, but in September 2020, the building caught fire and those plans were abandoned.

Three years later, a space opened up at the rebuilt building on Federal Street, in which the main tenant is now Milton Arts Guild. Latham decided to take advantage, relocating Sip there under the new name SipUrban Farmhouse as a combination of both her coffee shops’ names.

“I couldn’t be happier,” Latham said of being back in Milton. “The space is just the coziest. It’s like it was made just for us. It’s clean and pristine, but homey.”

She said the main goal of the new place is to continue with what she has been doing with Sip but giving customers what they missed after Suburban Farmhouse left. Latham said nostalgia factored into the menu, which uses the original Farmhouse recipes to bring back what people loved: coffee, muffins, cookies, bagels, croissants and quiche, along with new baked items, and dishes such as chicken, tuna and egg salads. She said a newer item is sorbet-style acai bowls, and in August, the restaurant will start serving bubble teas.

SipUrban Farmhouse officially opened June 23 and is open seven days per week.

“Right now, I’m wholeheartedly fulfilled,” Latham said. It’s been amazing. Miltonians, I’ve missed you!”

SipUrban Farmhouse is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday; and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday. More information can be found through social media channels, @684stateofmind on Instagram or SIPUrbanFarmhouse on Facebook.
