A new McDonald’s in Milton is expected to be ready to serve customers later this fall.
Site work is already underway for the restaurant, to be located at the corner of Route 16 and Union Street Extended. Groundbreaking will take place Monday, Aug. 26. Proprietor Mike Meoli – whose Meoli Companies owns 25 McDonald’s franchises throughout the Delmarva Peninsula, including in Rehoboth Beach, Dover and Long Neck – said they are shooting for opening in November.
McDonald’s is planning to build a 4,000-square-foot restaurant with a drive-thru in the Food Lion shopping center. The project was given final site-plan approval by the planning and zoning commission in May, and final approval from Milton Town Council came June 7.
Plans for the McDonald’s include using the existing entrances and exits to the shopping center, and installing stop marks along four of the drive aisles on the parcel. Stop marks will also be installed at the drive-thru entrance and exit. Access to the restaurant shows traffic coming off Union Street Extended to make a right into the far right lane of the shopping center.
Site plans for the McDonald’s were first unveiled in October 2022, but the review process took a considerable amount of time, in part due to concerns about access to the parcel and safety issues caused by using the existing drive aisles.
