Slaughter Beach 5K and family fun day set Sept. 19

The Town of Slaughter Beach, a quiet community referred to as the Jewel of the Delaware Bay, invites everyone to participate in the third annual 5K Run/Walk from the Greenheads and Family Fun Day starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 19, starting at 357 Bay Ave., Station 89 Memorial Firehouse.

All runners and walkers must sign up and preregister online at Participants will receive a snack box, goodie bag and T-shirt.

The race will benefit the town’s volunteer Memorial Fire Company led by Chief Terry Jester who has been named Firefighter of the Year five times, most recently in 2017.

The Reunion Band will entertain with rock and blues music from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event continues with a 50/50, food cooked and served by the fire company’s auxiliary and adult beverages from Mispillion River Brewing.

Planned activities include a bounce house, tug-of-war, donut-eating contest, family scavenger hunt organized by the DuPont Nature Center and more. “This is a fun-filled day out for the entire community, and we go to great lengths to include kids of all ages when we celebrate our volunteers,” said Kathy Lock, mayor of Slaughter Beach.
