Snyder-Hall not objective or impartial

August 9, 2024

Based solely on my firsthand experience, Claire Snyder-Hall does not seem to align with the Democratic Party’s values of objective/impartial candidates. I read the letters to the editor in the Cape Gazette recently. This inspired me to write in, agreeing with Pete Schwartzkopf’s assessment, as I too have had some concerns given my experience with Snyder-Hall.

I believe a candidate hoping to serve the constituents must at the bare minimum be objective/impartial. The definition of objective is expressing or dealing with facts without distortion of personal feelings; the definition of impartial is lack of favoritism toward one side or another.

I believe a political candidate should research facts and be able to reach across party/community lines to achieve those goals. I think the question we in Delaware should ask ourselves with Snyder-Hall is, can she do those things and serve all constituents? Based on my direct experience, that answer is no.

My name is Patty Rickman. I am a domestic violence survivor turned advocate who lives in the Rehoboth Beach area. I am also an out lesbian in our small LGBTQ community; with lesbians only making up 4.5% of the total population in the Rehoboth Beach area, according to the state census. I have also been an advocate for domestic violence/intimate partner violence justice, following an offender pleading guilty twice to domestic violence-related crimes.

I also organized a domestic violence rally at the Georgetown Circle April 21, 2023, to stand up against domestic violence after an unjust decision where an offender tried to weaponize courts against a victim. Offenders often use this abuse tactic. In the LGBTQ community, domestic violence/intimate partner violence happens to six in 10 lesbian women, or 76.2%. This is a staggering statistic, and we need candidates who are impartial and objective because there is only one side when it comes to domestic violence, and that is to stand up against it.

Delaware deserves a candidate who is objective/impartial, and a candidate who is for all constituents. Based solely on my direct experience, I feel Claire Snyder-Hall is not that candidate.

I am in full support of Kathy McGuiness, as she has proven to be a candidate for the constituents and a respected politician.
