The following letter is about House Bill 125 to authorize schools to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students.
Before this bill is voted on, I would like each representative to go to a school at breakfast or lunch and see how much food is wasted. I was a teacher for 13 years and I had breakfast and lunch duty, and I will tell you the waste is heartbreaking.
People say they want to make sure every child gets a nutritious breakfast and lunch. Short of spoon feeding each child, it is not going to happen!
Do we really have the money to waste? There has to be another solution to seeing that our children are fed properly.
Also, what is the rationale in providing for every child? If we need to lower the bar to include more children, then do that, but there are many families in the Rehoboth area that can well afford breakfast and lunch for their children.
