Familiar faces make for a seamless transition
February 2, 2022

Scott Kammerer, president of SoDel Concepts, recently announced the leadership team at Surf Bagel in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach.

The Rehoboth Beach hospitality group acquired the popular bagel and sandwich business Dec. 6, 2021.

John Sapienza, who has been with Surf Bagel for 13 years, was promoted to corporate chef. He oversees the culinary team at both locations.

His son, Johnny Sapienza, and Enid Gutierrez are general managers. The younger Sapienza has been with Surf Bagel for more than five years; Gutierrez has seven years under her belt.

Three more familiar faces include Wendy DiGuglielmo, Emmi Lux and Guillermo Montalvo, who will all be serving as assistant managers, with Wendy and Emmi working at Lewes and Guillermo at the Midway location.

DJ Forcucci, who joined Surf Bagel in 2020, is now administrative director. He oversees accounting and human resources for Surf Bagel.

“We have been impressed with Surf Bagel’s strong leadership teams,” Kammerer said. “They know the ins and outs of this hospitality sector and are dedicated to the community. These managers and their team prioritize the guest experience and employee development. We’re thrilled to welcome them to SoDel Concepts.”

Wes Books, a seasoned SoDel Concepts manager, is director of operations for Surf Bagel. Previously, he was the general manager of Matt’s Fish Camp in Lewes.

“Wes has experience opening restaurants for us, and he’s a consummate professional,” Kammerer said. “He will be a valuable resource for the team at Surf Bagel in their continued success.”
