A somber visit to Pearl Harbor with the Cape Gazette

November 4, 2017

With much appropriate fanfare, as reported in past editions of the Cape Gazette, readers were made aware that the Fort Miles Historical Association was completing the arduous task of bringing one of the USS Missouri’s original 16-inch guns to historic Fort Miles. Truly, this was a massive undertaking. During their 2-week stay in Hawaii, Paula and Jym VanSciver returned the favor, taking a copy of the Gazette to “Mighty Mo” during a visit to Pearl Harbor. They stood at the actual spot of the Japanese surrender on the ship’s deck. During their goosebump-raising experience at Pearl Harbor, they also visited the USS Arizona Memorial to pay tribute to the sailors entombed at that site.
