For the Delaware-based company that invented showering close to 150 years ago, Earth Day is about saving water. This past year, Speakman met its pledge of helping America save 1 billion gallons of water by encouraging consumers to change the way they shower.
In addition to designing a range of showerheads that use 20-40 percent less water, the company's philanthropic efforts send a steady flow of financial and volunteer support to water conservation causes.
Speakman has expanded its local conservation commitment by supporting three local organizations and events:
- Delaware Nature Society - Speakman has joined the Clean Water Alliance, supporting the Clean Water Campaign to improve water quality of local waterways through advocacy, conservation and education.
- Delaware Chapter of The Nature Conservancy - Speakman has signed on for the second year as Lead Sponsor of the 2017 Dogfish Dash road race set for Sunday, Sept. 24, in Milton. The popular race benefits The Nature Conservancy's efforts of improving the overall health and water quality of Delaware rivers and priority watersheds.
- Firefly Festival - This summer, as the Official Shower Head of Firefly, Speakman will provide water-efficient showerheads for the 70,000 expected attendees of the annual Firefly music festival from Thursday to Sunday, June 15 to 18, in Dover. A total of 425 shower facilities will be on-site providing concertgoers with showers that use less water without sacrificing performance, directly conserving water usage for the four-day event.
"Speakman's commitment to water conservation will always be a significant part of who we are as a company," said CEO Bob Knoll. "We started this company in Delaware close to 150 years ago, and feel it's imperative that we continue to do our part to address water conservation, and to partner with organizations that will help improve the lives of Delawareans."
