Spring plant sale set at St. Peter's Church in Lewes May 15
St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lewes will be holding a public plant sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Sunday, May 15. One of the oldest churches in America, St. Peter's is on Second Street in downtown historic Lewes. The church is surrounded by gardens filling an entire city block.
There is a meditation garden, a shady resting garden, a prayerful labyrinth (currently being renovated) and a host of flowering plants and trees scattered within an historic cemetery. All of this provides a beautiful, welcoming, year-round resting spot for visitors and congregation members.
Proceeds from this plant sale will fund new projects as well as enhance existing displays for this year. Past plant sales have funded the meditation garden, shade garden and spring bulb display. The church depends on donations from talented gardeners in the congregation to provide the plants for sale. In the past there have been annuals, vegetables, fruit trees, herbs, perennials, shrubs, ornamentals and bulbs among the many donations.
Again this year there will also be a garden boutique for all the non-plant items gardeners love so dearly. Shoppers can expect to find books, garden ornaments, decorative pots, custom-made birdhouses, garden tools and other garden-themed material.
