'St. Augustine: Polish Sausage and the Moral Life' is topic June 18

June 13, 2015

The St. Peter’s Summer Spirituality Series continues at 7 p.m., Thursday, June 18, with a presentation by the Rev. Larry Hofer, titled "St. Augustine: Polish Sausage and the Moral Life." It will be in the parish hall of St. Peter’s, 211 Mulberry St. in Lewes.

Hofer, associate priest at St. Peter’s, will lead this session on ethics. The discussion will focus on human nature and people's capacity to make appropriate decisions.

What are the components of an ethical decision? What is the role of the scriptures and the Christian tradition? How do scientific discoveries impact ethical decisions? Has ethical decision making been replaced with political discourse and practical expediency? Is there a just war, and what are its characteristics?

Hofer and his wife Susan live in Lewes, and are members of St. Peter’s. They commute frequently to Boston to visit their grandchildren. He is a graduate of Kenyon College and The General Seminary, and was the rector of St. Andrew‘s Church, State College, Pa., for 14 years before retiring and moving to Delaware.

The Summer Spirituality Series will be held at 7 p.m. every Thursday evening until Labor Day. All presentations are free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be taken at the door. Fellowship and ice cream cones in the parish hall will follow the concert. For more information, call 302-645-8479 or go to www.stpeterslewes.org.
