St. George’s Chapel to add early service Sept. 7

Children’s program to coincide with 10 a.m. worship
September 3, 2025

To accommodate growth in the parish and increasing attendance in the intimate space that was constructed in 1794, St. George’s Chapel will add a weekly 8:15 a.m. service to its Sunday morning schedule Sept. 7, at at 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson. With no music and a brief homily, the early service is expected to last 45 minutes at most.

The 10 a.m. service will include music and a sermon. New this season, children’s church with a religious education component will take place in the parish hall at 20332 Beaver Dam Road across from the chapel. Children of all ages are welcome. Youngsters will be reunited with their families for communion during the service in the chapel. Fellowship in the parish hall follows the 10 a.m. service.

Both the hall and chapel are handicapped accessible; there is ample off-street parking alongside the brick wall of the chapel and in the parking lot adjacent to the parish hall. A uniformed crossing guard is on duty to help folks cross Beaver Dam Road before and after services.

“We are so grateful that as this area of Sussex County continues to grow, folks are finding a spiritual home with us here at St. George’s,” said the Rev. Shelley D. McDade, parish rector.

St. George’s Chapel is part of the Episcopal Parish of All Saints’ Church & St. George’s Chapel, which has been caring for the spiritual needs of the communities of Harbeson, western portions of Lewes, all of Rehoboth Beach and beyond for more than 300 years at its two locations in Harbeson and Rehoboth Beach. It also operates Parish Thrift Shops located in Rehoboth Beach and the Midway Shopping Center.

“Make the love of God more widely known” is the parish mission statement. All are welcome.
