Three St. Jude The Apostle parishioners were honored for their work in youth ministry at the Annual Diocesan Recognition Dinner April 30 in Dover. Carroll Snyder won the St. John Bosco Award, which is given to adult leaders who have been involved in youth ministry for five or more years and are positive role models for youth. Snyder has served as a religious educator for 29 years. He is the confirmation preparation coordinator and the 10th-grade catechist for confirmation at St. Jude's.
Amanda Rose won the St. Timothy National Youth Award, which is the highest diocesan recognition of a youth who lives as a disciple of Christ, sets a positive example for other youth, and demonstrates gospel values through service to others. Rose, a senior at Cape Henlopen High School, has participated in food collections and coat drives held at St. Jude since middle school. She serves at weekly religious education classes as a kindergarten student helper. She also helped over the years with Little Disciples on Sundays and the Little Disciples summer enrichment.
Pam Becker won the Companions on the Journey Award for her outstanding service in catechesis to youth. Becker has worked with parish youth for 24 years, first at St. Edmond's in Rehoboth, and since 2001 at St. Jude's, where she became the founding director of religious education. Becker supervises the Religious Education Program for grades K-10, as well as Little Disciples preschool catechesis.
As DRE, she guides the faith formation process for the entire parish, supervising the work of the RCIA process and sacramental preparation for baptism, first reconciliation, first eucharist and confirmation. In addition, she is a resource for and helps with the work of the Christian formation, adult faith formation, youth ministry leadership and parish library committees.
St. Jude The Apostle Church is at 152 Tulip Drive and Route 1, just north of Five Points in Lewes.
