Steampunk Treehouse at home at Dogfish Head
One of the nation’s most unusual sculptures is being installed this week at Dogfish Head’s Craft Brewery in Milton.
The 25,000-pound Steampunk Tree House
, which has been installed at Burning Man
, Coachella and other music festivals around the country, is the creation of artist Sean Orlando and the 5-Ton Crane Arts Group of Oakland, Calif.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony to present the work will be at 4 p.m., Friday, June 25, at the brewery. “We found these guys on the internet, saw this sculpture and realized it was right up our alley, definitely off-centered” said Mariah Calagione of Dogfish. “It’s a place where our employees can go when they need creative inspiration.”
According to an internet item from the creators of the 30-foot-tall functional sculpture: “The Steampunk Tree House is representative of a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature: humans living in harmony with the planet and its natural elements. The house component itself is built of recycled wood, clockwork components and steel, styled after the Victorian age of architecture, H.G. Well, and Jules Verne.”
