Former Rehoboth Beach Inspector of Elections Wayne Steele was recognized for his 24 years of service during a commissioner meeting Aug. 18.
Steele was the city’s inspector of elections from 2001 to 2024. Mayor Stan Mills presented him with an engraved glass plaque bearing the city seal. The inscription thanked Steele for his loyal dedication to fairness and impartiality in the election process.
Commissioner Patrick Gossett said Steele always carried out his duties respectfully with a smile, grace and integrity. The city’s election only happens one day a year and it’s extremely important, he said.
Steele was joined by wife, Carol “Bunny” Steele, who also served as an election judge for several years.
